    i’m assuming that this is in some indian language that i don’t have the fonts for. if it was encoded with UTF-8, there’s a good chance that i could read it in the language that it was supposed to be in to begin with. if you are interested in this, contact me. i’m an expert… 8)

    Dear all,
    If you need the Gurmukhi Script (created by the Gurus) then use the below link to down load the font.

    OK my expert friend. How might I load the Gurmukhi script into my blog?

    As mentioned elsewhere, English translations of the Sikh scripture/True Guru, the Siri Guru Granth Sahib, are awkward, with sexist language added where it doesn’t exist in Gurmukhi. I have a hard time understanding the SGGS until I sit down line by line and edit the bad grammar, prissy Victorianisms, the added Hes, Hims, Lords -and often the word “God” – out.

    Here is my interpretation of the above Shabad:

    O Dear One, I am not high or low or in the middle.
    I am the One Being’s being therfore I am in God’s Sanctuary.
    Imbued with the Naam, I am detached from worldliness;
    I have forgotten sorrow, separation and disease.

    O my follow being, by Guru’s Grace,
    I perform devotional worship to my Only Master.
    One whose heart is filled with these Hymns of the True Guru,
    obtains the Pure One.
    S/he is not under the power of the Messenger of Death,
    nor does s/he owe Death anything.

    (Pause and consider this teaching)

    By singing the Glorious Praises of Har with our tongues,
    we live with the Divine One and we do whatever pleases The Beloved.
    Without the Naam (constant awareness of the Primal One)
    life passes in vain; every moment is useless.

    O Dear One, liars have no place of rest, either inside or outside;
    and slanderers do not find soul salvation.
    Even if one is resentful, the Beloved One does not withhold blessings;
    day by day, they increase.

    O Dear One, no one can take away Guruji’s gifts;
    because it is my only Lord and Master who has given them.
    The dark-faced slanderers, with lies in their mouths,
    do not appreciate these gifts.

    O Dear One, The Beloved One forgives and blends with those
    who take Divine Sanctuary;
    the Beloeved One does not delay for an instant.
    Creator/Creation is the source of bliss, the Greatest Sat Guru;
    through the True Teacher, we experience Union.

    O Dear One, the One of is always kind, and is being kind.
    Through Guruji’s Teachings, our wanderings cease.
    Touching the philosopher’s stone, metal is transformed into gold.
    Such is the glorious greatness
    of the society of Sants (authentically humble and holy people).

    The Source, Har, is the immaculate water;
    the mind is the bather,
    and the True Teacher, True Guru, is the bath attendant, O my fellow beings.
    That humble being who joins the Sat Sangat (true congregation, humble good folk)
    shall not be consigned to reincarnation again;
    because a humble person’s light merges into The Light.

    You are the Great Primal Master,
    the infinite tree of life;
    I am a bird perched on Your branches.
    Grant to Nanak the Immaculate Naam;
    throughout the ages,
    Nanak sings the Praises of the Shabad
    (these Sikh teachings).
